Recent random-ness

A lot of things have passed lately. Here's the run down.

-The days are getting shorter, which means if I want to run (which isn't the case lately), then I should do it before work (which I am terrible at accomplishing).

- I got a road bike and did my first biathlon. I was terrified before the race since I had never ridden a road bike in a race with that many people around me. I was convinced I would die or at least get in an accident. Never had I felt so anxious before a race (hence my heart rate monitor reading 190 as I started the first run [granted the run started up a hill]). Once the race started, I felt great, no worries and the biking was fantastic (run 2miles, bike 12 miles, run 2 miles). The last run- OY! The brix transition was horrible and I was really feeling tired. Overall, I came in 4th in my age/gender group (ok, so there were 12 of us in that category), lagging 11 seconds behind third place. Had I transitioned faster instead of taking my time to fix my ponytail, I think I could have made third. Anyway, I was very happy with my time (29th out of about 89 women in the narrow tire division), especially considering I know I could have biked harder.

-I went for a fantastic weekend Anusara Yoga retreat with my mom-in-law. It was amazing and really confirmed my plans of getting yoga certified. We also went to the Olive Garden! and Los Amigos! (My FAVORITE Mexican restaurant.)

- I had a biking accident in CP with a runner who was wearing headphones and therefore failed to hear my shouts of warning, and ran perpendicular to me (while I was going fast on a downhill). The impact wasn't so bad since I slammed on my brakes just before the collision. Either way, both of us got hurt, and he, an adult male, was a big baby about about. Boo stinkin hoo. He wasn't even sorry. Next time, I'll be sure to have a BIG spear attached to the front wheel.

- We hosted a pumpkin carving party (complete with beer and chili) in the backyard. It was a lot of fun, even though our pumpkins were riddled with fungal growth three days later.

- Josh turned 30 and to celebrate Yilin hosted a surprise party. She made lamb Shepard's Pie, a fantastic salad, chocolate ganache cake, and GUINNESS ICE CREAM! GUINNESS ICE CREAM! It was fantastic. I made meat cupcakes (think meatloaf baked in muffin tins decorated with mashed potatoes and a sprinkle of chives). It was a fantastic night.

- We have fantastic Halloween costumes prepared. If all goes well, the next post will reveal the costume secret and blow your mind away.

Buy It! Now!

My sister recently started taking a jewelery design class at FIT and started making/designing earrings. They are made of high quality, real gem stones and gold/silver materials. Obviously I recommend her designs because she is my sister, but being someone who normally buys all her jewelry from street vendors, her pieces are unique, classy and well priced (especially considering the labor and materials) and therefore worth the few extra bucks. I have several earrings and always get compliments. So what am I getting at here (in a not so subtle manner...) GO buy her stuff. DO IT NOW! Oh, but "Hyunmi, how do I do that?" you ask. It's easy. Go here:

Put in an order and tell her I sent you-if you don't do these things I will hurt you. But in all seriousness, if you see something you like, and would like to have it somewhat altered for your taste, email her. It's nice to know that you can get just what you want. Buy a gift for yourself, friend, or sig other. Come on, we're all like magpies and respond well to shiny things. Take a look, peruse, support a burgeoning artist. After all, I think we all have real jobs and dream jobs so it's nice to know you're helping a dream job become the real job.

Unlike me. I mean, I always wanted to be a scientist. Right. Sigh.
