Weekend Update

It's been a busy weekend. On Saturday morning, Mike and I got up to run a 4mile race in Central Park. What made this race particularly terrible was the humidity. It was about 73F with 94% humidity when the race started at 8.30am. Thankfully it didn't take me too long to finish nor did I have an asthma attack (as I have been prone to have on very humid race days [those inhalers are amazing!]). Afterwards, Mike and I separated ways; he to visit Mike McManigal with Vijay, and I to host (co-host with Lori) Alison's bridal shower at a great Mexican place called Maracas. This place is fantastic because for about 15 bucks, you get brunch and all you can drink frozen margaritas, bloody mary's and mimosas. I highly recommend this place. They were really accommodating for all 16 of us and even gave us a "celebration" tequila shot moment complete with blaring strobe lights, sombreros and a Polaroid picture. Mind you this celebration started at noon, so my 3pm, many people were tipsy. I am particularly proud of the favors I made-hot sauce bottles with specialized labels honoring Alison and her special pigs. Not your typical bridal shower.

Today is all about packing and work. Well, I guess packing is work, but not the kind that gets me closer to graduation. I am very uninhibited about getting rid of stuff. I think the get rid of stuff pile is getting bigger and bigger which makes me happier and happier. I don't know how people move entire houses. I want to be able to have as few things as possible and I never want to move again. And if I have to, then I am leaving the apt. with all the contents in it and moving with a sleeping bag and knapsack. Also, everything should be made of disintegrating materials. What, you don't want that blanket anymore? Add some water and watch it melt away. And it's great for the environment too!

Oodles of noodles

I love noodle dishes, particularly Korean ones. Everyone should try them and if my recommendation is not reason enough, here is a NYtimes article written beautifully about naeng myun. It made my mouth water. I think I will visit Korea Town pretty soon or just wait to see my mom.

Like Your Face

This article in NYTimes today was really interesting, but more interesting was taking the Face Tests. Katie and I both took the tests and considering I always thought I was terrible at recognizing faces (I am, however, excellent with remembering names), I did fairly well. The test also contributes to a research study conducted by the University College London. Give it a whirl and help research while at it.

Downward spiral

Bad things happen when you become consumed. Rather, if you have the type of personality of focusing your entire mind and energy on the task at hand, you will eventually find yourself in a downward spiral. For example, I have been working (as have lots of other people in the lab) on the grant directly related to my thesis. This mean lots of data compilation, writing and figure making. Today I had to make 22 figures starting at 5pm. Not that bad because many of them were half made. But because I am so picky, I could not settle on taking certain figures from reviews and the web. No. I re-made them. All of them. Illustrator and Photoshop are my new best friends (esp considering Mike is in Boston). As a result, I forgot to move to for about 4 hours. I mean, I rolled myself over to get a tissue now and then, but I didn't really move. Upon finishing about 5 mins ago, I looked at my foot and found it to be bluish white from the lack of blood. Also, I pulled a muscle in my neck! This is sad. Also, I have consumed more nuts than recommended and have been singing My Humps ( with a little chair dancing, but only waist and above) over and over again.

I finally went to the bathroom and looked at myself and saw a slightly bloated face, pasty (How did I get pasty!?) and devoid of life. I looked the way a cartoonist might depict a computer dork. Like dorky computer programmers/engineers. Boy am I glad I didn't chose that life. Undoubtedly, I would lose my natural yellow pigment and wither away to nothing...

What you gon' do with all that junk? All that junk inside your trunk?

Go ahead, covet my soon-to-be backyard.

It wasn't very hard to come to the decision that down-sizing on interior living space would be worth the addition of our own private garden (in the future complete with slip and slide) but apparently this is something of a real esate trend in NYC.

Who knew I was so trendy?
